Buckeyes Ex-QB Named Head Coach at Westerville North High School
Former Ohio State quarterback Stanley Johnson is trading in his cleats for a clipboard. The 1997 Rose Bowl champion will join three other Buckeyes legends on the Westerville North High School coaching staff, where he will serve as head coach.
Jackson played four seasons at Ohio State, beginning in 1994 and culminating in the aforementioned Rose Bowl victory three years later. During that time, Jackson played in 47 games, amassing 2,660 yards, 22 touchdowns and a 133.7 quarterback rating. The Paterson, New Jersey-native also scored five rushing touchdowns and 533 yards on the ground.
Earlier this summer, Jackson told the Columbus Dispatch he and the other coaches don't shy away from sharing stories of their days playing for the Scarlet and Gray with their players.
"We talk about our backgrounds all the time because I want them to know that they're not learning from guys who read it in a book," Jackson said. "They're learning from guys who played at a very high level." Jackson also said the members of his "dynamic" coaching staff are helping him instill an entirely new culture within the Warriors program.
"We put in a really robust strength and conditioning program with a lot of speed work, so you're seeing the team getting faster and stronger," Jackson said. "It's totally different than what they've done in the past from a technique standpoint."
Jackson's new Westerville North Warriors will kick off their season on August 18 against their rival, the Westerville Central Warhawks. However, Jackson said there is still plenty to do before that time. "In some ways, we're ahead of schedule, and others we're behind," Jackson said to Eleven Warriors. "We have a lot of work to do."
