The Ohio State Buckeyes welcomed Kansas State transfer QB Will Howard with open arms this offseason, desperately needing to fill the void - and hopefully improve overall at the position - after the exit of Kyle McCord.

While there is an open competition between himself, Devin Brown, Lincoln Kienholz, Air Noland and Julian Sayin, the prevailing theory is that it is Howard's job to lose.

And while it has been quite the adjustment for the senior signal-caller in Chip Kelly's offensive system, Howard is progressing nicely through spring camp and is happy with where things sit.

“I feel good about it,” Howard said last week. “I’m still just taking it day by day and I’m not trying to get ahead of myself and look at the end goal because the day in front of me is what’s most important. I’m just trying to get better every single day.”

The biggest adjustments thus far for Howard, haven't been in the playbook. Instead, it has been in developing an on-field chemistry with his new receivers, and learning the timing in their routes.

That said, Howard is pleased with how will he has progressed on that front, and is ready to be able to open things up - both in the playbook and with his arm.

“The thing is, it’s never going to be perfect,” Howard said. “Some of the routes that we run are a little different. The timing is a little different obviously getting used to the speed of the guys here. But I think I’m adjusting well... Every day, it’s just going to get more like that," Howard said. "I’m going to be able to just really start ripping it because I really understand it.”

Buckeyes fans will get their first look at their new QB in a game scenario when the Buckeyes take the field for their spring football game on April 13.

The game will be nationally televised on FOX.
