Ohio State QB Decision Gets Tentative Deadline from Coach Ryan Day
Ohio State Buckeyes coach Ryan Day has spent a majority of the offseason trying to choose a starting quarterback to replace C.J. Stroud.
Whether Day pick sophomore Devin Brown or junior Kyle McCord, Buckeyes fans have been anxious to know which signal caller will helm the offense.
During a press conference Monday, Day was asked when he could see himself naming a starter, with the first game of this season a little over two weeks away.
"I think we were probably scheduled to do a press conference on Wednesday," Day said. "That probably would have been about the right time."
The aforementioned scheduled podium time was moved to earlier in the week however, allowing media the chance to hear about last Saturday's team scrimmage before meeting with the rest of the position groups throughout the week.
When asked why he felt this could be the right time to name a starter, Day said it followed the same timetable as previous years.
"That probably in C.J. or Justin's (Fields) year was probably about that time, practice 12 or 13," Day said. "But we're not there right now."
So what's left to decide? What more does Day want to see from either Brown or McCord in order to name one of them the starting quarterback?
"I don't think it's right now we have two guys who are just blowing it out of the water and you're like 'Oh my God, I don't know who's gonna play,'" Day said. "But it's also not like they're not doing well either...Now, were just looking for the consistency."
As of today, there are no more scheduled media sessions with Day until Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Time will tell if Day waits until then to make his choice, or if another conference is added to the schedule in the coming days.
