Buckeyes Land Pair of Five Stars in On3's Final 2023 Consensus Rankings

As the Buckeyes look to retool for the 2023 season, they will do so with a talented recruiting class.

Following their heartbreaking 42-41 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Peach Bowl, the Ohio State Buckeyes turned their attention to the offseason to begin preparation for the 2023 season.

While there will no doubt be questions to answer moving forward, there is still plenty of reason to be excited about the coming season for Ohio State. Chief among those reasons is a loaded 2023 recruiting class.

Ahead of national signing day the Buckeyes currently sport the No. 4 2023 class according to On3's rankings, which is the best class in the Big Ten. This is a big win for the Buckeyes as they try to keep Michigan from winning their third straight conference title.

Within the class, though, the top two recruits according to On3 are a pair of five-stars in cornerback Jermaine Matthews and receiver Noah Rogers.

Matthews, a 5-foot-11 1/2, 175-pound corner from Winton Woods High School, has shown an ability to be a shutdown corner. He was named the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association Division II Southwest District Defensive Player of the Year and the Division II Defensive Player of the Year.

He finished his senior season with 51 total tackles and racked up the turnovers with four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and six interceptions, three of which were returned for a touchdown.

As for Rogers, he is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound receiver out of Rolesville (NC), he put up elite numbers in his senior season as well. He recorded 1,432 receiving yards, 22 touchdown catches and averaged a whopping 22 yards per catch.

The Buckeyes will likely be one of the best teams in college football once again, and if guys like Matthews and Rogers contribute early don't be surprised if they challenge Michigan for the conference title.
