Ohio State Offense 'Still Very Potent' Without C.J. Stroud, Says ESPN
There's faith in the Ohio State Buckeyes' starting quarterback, even without knowing who it will be.
In an article published by ESPN on Tuesday, the site answered the question "How potent will Ohio State's offense be without C.J. Stroud at quarterback?"
"Still very potent," ESPN wrote. "Coach Ryan Day has elevated Ohio State's production on offense, especially at quarterback, since his arrival in 2017. He has produced three consecutive NFL first-round draft picks in Dwayne Haskins Jr., Justin Fields and Stroud, and there's little reason to doubt what he can do with Stroud's successor."
As of now, a decision on which quarterback will take over for Stroud in the starting role has not been made.
The choice for Day seems to be between senior Kyle McCord or sophomore Devin Brown. The former is the heavy favorite due to his previous game experience.
"Kyle McCord, a former ESPN top-35 recruit, has patiently waited his turn and will enter preseason camp as the favorite to win the job," ESPN said.
The strength the Buckeyes are bringing back in their other positions, especially in the receiver and running back rooms.
"Ohio State will return the nation's premiere wide receiver group, led by Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka, and talented running backs looking to bounce back from an uneven year," ESPN said.
There is one area of the Buckeyes offense that could raise concerns: the offensive line. ESPN says the loss of Paris Johnson Jr. and Dawand Jones was tough, but the o-line "must remain a strength" for the Scarlet and Gray offense.
Even with the losses on the offensive line, the site still believes the Buckeyes can compete with almost anyone in the country.
"Ohio State has the players, coaches and scheme to remain one of the nation's top offenses," ESPN wrote.
