Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson Address Injury Criticism, 'Ahead of Schedule' with Spring Recovery
Ohio State Buckeyes running back TreVeyon Henderson spent a lot of time on the inactives list due to a broken bone in his foot last season.
When Henderson announced his ailment would cause him to miss sharing the field with his Buckeyes teammates at the 2023 Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl in the College Football Playoff against Georgia, college football fans took to social media with theories about the real motivations behind his forgoing of the big game.
Henderson said he doesn't allow messages like those to get to him, and instead remains focused on the people and voices most important to him.
"It doesn't really phase me what the fans say because they don't know what they don't know," Henderson said. "But what matters to me most is the people above, the people who really matters the most."
Henderson still made the trip to Atlanta for the game and spent his time helping his fellow running backs in a variety of non-physical capacities. This spring, it was originally said that Henderson would participate in everything except for intrasquad scrimmages, but the junior was indeed taking snaps during these drills.
"I didn't want to make it seem like I'm soft because that's never the question," Henderson said, adding that his involvement in the scrimmages was because he is "ahead of schedule" with his recovery.
It is not for certain yet what Henderson's role will be in the upcoming Ohio State Spring Game or when opening weekend of the regular season against the Indiana Hoosiers rolls around in September.
Whatever the case ends up being, Henderson wants to leave no doubt with fans about his mentality and his dedication to the Buckeyes.
"I'll do anything to be on the field with my team, and I've been doing everything I possibly could to be on my team all last season," Henderson said. "So whatever the outsiders say, that really means nothing to me."
