Buckeyes RB TreVeyon Henderson Breaks Long TD Run vs. Fighting Irish
The No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes offense was hard pressed for yardage, explosiveness and points in the first half — until their first drive of the second half.
Running back TreVeyon Henderson took an inside handoff 61 yards to the end zone to give Ohio State a 10-0 lead over the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish with 11:14 to go in the third quarter. The touchdown run was the longest rush of the season for the Buckeyes' offense.
Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. was hurt on the play after getting rolled up on by a Notre Dame defender while he was engaged in a block.
Henderson has 11 carries for 95 yards — a new single-game high this year — and the one score in the game so far after only tallying 34 yards on 10 totes in the first half. This continues a streak of dominance by Henderson, who has scored two touchdowns in each of the Buckeyes' last two games.
The play was set up by continued stout play on defense. Notre Dame was facing a fourth-and-1, but safeties Sonny Styles and Lathan Ransom combined on a tackle to stop Fighting Irish quarterback Sam Hartman short of the line to gain.
As a team, Ohio State's ground game was scuffling a bit prior to that run, averaging 3.32 yards per carry on 19 totes.
Last week, Henderson eclipsed the 2,000-yard career mark with 88 rushing yards against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
Henderson is looking for his first 100-yard rushing performance since Oct. 8, 2022, against the Michigan State Spartans when he amassed 118.
