Urban Meyer Speaks On Michigan State Spartans Coaching Rumor
Whenever there's a head coaching opening in college football, Urban Meyer's name — almost hilariously — finds its way into the mix.
When the Michigan State Spartans fired Mel Tucker with cause, Meyer was included in a laundry list of candidates who could be the next man in East Lansing. However, The Athletic's Bruce Feldman said in a post on X that there is "zero truth" to Meyer being a candidate for the position.
Meyer told Feldman that "he has no interest" in the Michigan State job and "is happy with what he’s doing now at Fox Sports."
The former Buckeyes' head coach is currently a co-host on "Big Noon Kickoff" after serving as a head coach at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, Ohio State and the Jacksonville Jaguars for 18 years.
Tucker was fired Sept. 27 as a result of a sexual misconduct complaint brought forth by Brenda Tracy, who is a sexual assault awareness speaker. Tucker is currently under investigation by the university.
The university said in a statement that Tucker's firing came due to "his admitted and undisputed behaviors which have brought public disrespect, contempt and ridicule upon the university; and constitute a material breach of his agreement, and moral turpitude."
Harlon Barnett was named the program's interim head coach after serving as acting head coach during Tucker's suspension that began Sept. 10. The university brought back former head coach Mark Dantonio Sept. 10 to help the staff after the suspension and following Tucker's firing, he was named an associate head coach.
