Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Youngstown State Week 2 Preview
The houses that Jim Tressel built are set to meet this season at Ohio Stadium for the first time in over a decade.
Ohio State will square off against Youngstown State in the second week of the 2023 college football season on September 9, 2023.
The Buckeyes have a 99 percent chance to win against the Penguins, according to ESPN's Matchup Predictor. Official betting lines for the game have not been set.
There is an extremely short history connecting the Scarlet and Gray to the Red and Black, as the two institutions have only met twice prior to this year.
In the most recent showdown in 2008, the aforementioned Tressel coached the Buckeyes to a 43-0 shutout victory against the school where he would eventually serve nine years as president, beginning in 2014.
Ohio State also got the best of Youngstown State in 2007, winning 38-6 in their first-ever battle.
To say the Buckeyes outclass the Penguins would not be an untrue or unfair statement. As a Power-5 school, the Buckeyes are exposed to tougher opponents, and have the resources to pursue better talents and funding for better equipment than their Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) counterpart.
In fact, Ohio State rarely ever lines up against an FCS school during a typical season. One must go back a full decade to find the last such instance when the Buckeyes won 76-0 against Florida A&M in 2013.
The Buckeyes were previously scheduled to host the San Jose State Spartans on the same date and at the same venue as they are playing the Penguins. The plans fell through, however, and Ohio State was forced to schedule a different opponent for their Week Two home game.
Though unclear which school Tressel will support come kickoff in September, it can be assumed he will be wearing red.
