Corey Dennis Remains With Ohio State In Yet-To-Be-Determined Role

Corey Dennis is expected to remain with the Ohio State Buckeyes in some role, though he will not be coaching the quarterbacks as in years past.

Corey Dennis’ career path seems to still be running through the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The former Buckeyes quarterbacks coach will not spend next season in his familiar role but is believed to remain with the team in a to-be-determined role.

Dennis’ change in role comes days after Ohio State announced the hiring of former NFL coach Bill O’Brien as the team’s offensive coordinator. O’Brien had been with the Alabama Crimson Tide and New England Patriots before moving to the Buckeyes.

Last season was not a kind one to Ohio State quarterbacks. Junior starter Kyle McCord threw for 24 touchdowns and almost 3,200 yards, but his six interceptions seemed to always come at the worst times for his team.

Case in point, a late-game pick from McCord killed what could have been a game-winning drive against the Michigan Wolverines. The defeat at the hands of their archrivals extended Ohio State’s losing streak against the Wolverines to the last three games.

McCord announced his transferring to the Syracuse Orange a few weeks after the Michigan contest, setting the stage for sophomore back-up Devin Brown. The Gilbert, Arizona native received a majority of the starting reps ahead of the 2023 Cotton Bowl against the Missouri Tigers.

An early injury forced Brown out of the game, in exchange for freshman Lincoln Kienholz. While Brown would eventually return to the contest, the combined effort from the two underclassmen quarterbacks would not be enough to best the Tigers.

Dennis is expected to take on a part-time job with the Buckeyes, as it is rumored Ohio State will hire a full-time defensive assistant coach sometime in the near future.
