Ryan Day And Ohio State Buckeyes Trying to 'Ignore The Noise' Ahead of Michigan State
The Ohio State Buckeyes are eagerly awaiting their new College Football Playoff ranking on Tuesday night.
And amid so many distractions in terms of the Michigan sign-stealing situation, and with so much football still left to play, Ryan Day is not concerned with exactly where the Buckeyes land.
Rather, he just wants his team to focus on what is in front of them at the given moment - the Michigan State Spartans.
“All you can do is focus on what’s important and what’s important right now is Michigan State,” Day said. “We always say ignore the noise. The noise comes in different ways. We’ve talked about how, for instance, the defense they’ve played really well to this point. Last year, it took a lot of heat for that. They’re getting a lot of positive reinforcement. You have to ignore that noise."
Some of that noise Day is referring to is the new reports coming out surrounding Ohio State's involvement - or lack there of - in exposing the Michigan scandal.
While other noise still is coming from playoff-standing detractors, after the Buck's underwhelming win vs. Rutgers.
Ultimately, however, Tuesday night's new ranking doesn't particularly matter. Whether the Buckeyes are No. 1 or No. 4 or somewhere in between, they will still control their own destiny.
That will start with Michigan State on Saturday - a team that everyone is telling them they should beat with ease.
In other words, more noise.
“Ranked No. 1 in the country? That’s noise,” Day said. “There’s a lot of other noise out there. We have to get rid of all that stuff and a team that can get rid of the distractions and the noise, ignore the noise the most this time of year gives them the best chance to play their best football.”
The Buckeyes and Spartans will kick off at 7:30 pm ET in Columbus.
