WATCH: Blake Corum Gives Michigan Wolverines Lead vs. Ohio State Buckeyes After Emotional Injury
The Ohio State Buckeyes have weathered the storm for the most part in Saturday’s season-defining rivalry matchup with the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor.
But late in the third quarter, the Wolverines had a huge game-shifting sequence.
After Michigan standout right guard Zak Zinter had to get carted off following a gruesome leg injury, Wolverines star running back Blake Corum capitalized on all the emotion by running to the left pylon untouched for a 22-yard touchdown to put Michigan in front, 24-17.
Take a look:
Facing a critical moment in the late stages of the third quarter, the Buckeyes were unable to answer Michigan’s momentum. Ohio State quickly went three-and-out on the ensuing possession. Aside from a turnover, it was exactly what the Buckeyes didn’t need, as the Wolverines were now able to build more energy behind the rowdy home crowd.
Michigan took advantage. A trick pass play from running back Donovan Edwards to tight end Colston Loveland for 34 yards set up the Wolverines in the red zone.
Luckily, Ohio State was able to hold strong on defense and force a 38-yard field goal to minimize the damages. The Buckeyes trailed 27-17 but there was just 11:57 left in the game, as time was becoming a factor.
Ohio State managed to find the end zone on a touchdown from Marvin Harrison Jr. to make it a 27-24 game on the next possession.
Michigan’s dynamic running back duo will likely play a huge role down the stretch of the fourth quarter, but Ohio State will look to make sure the Wolverines don’t have the luxury of trying to run out the clock late in the game as they try to tie things up or take the lead late.
