Wednesday Practice Takeaways From Fall Camp

The Buckeyes got after it on both sides of the ball, and we were able to catch some glimpses of what is to come!

I was able to attend my first practice as a member of Buckeye Maven earlier today, and while I wish I could have stayed and watched the whole thing, I did see some things that peaked my interest during the time I was allowed to watch.

  • While Ryan Day might say that Justin Fields hasn’t been named the starter yet, it sure looks like he has. Fields takes pretty much all the snaps with the first team and looks very comfortable running through the plays (videos below)
  • The backup appeared to be grad transfer Chris Chugunov majority of the time, as he took most of the snaps behind Fields with Gunnar Hoak and Jagger Laroe rotating between who goes third.
  • While none of these are big surprises the staring O-line appears to be Brandon Bowen, Wyatt Davis , Josh Meyers, Jonah Jackson, and Joshua Alabi.
  • The WR room looks to have reloaded as Benjimen Victor has seemed to take over as the leader of this group and made some nice grabs out there today. K.J Hill looks REALLY fast and if even Austin Mack remains hurt, Chris Olave looks ready to step up as well.
  • Chase Young was as advertised, this was my first time seeing him practice in person and he looks every part of the top 10 pick that everyone thinks he is (videos below).
  • The fact that either Jonathan Cooper or Tyreke Smith will have to start on the bench is a testament to the OSU D-line depth, both look like monsters who are gonna fit in perfectly next to Chase Young.

This practice falls at about the halfway point for the Buckeyes fall camp, just 17 days away from the first game.
