Chicago Bears QB And Ohio State Buckeye Justin Fields Nominated For FedEx Air Player of the Week
Sunday didn't go exactly as planned for the Chicago Bears, who gave up a 21-point second-half lead and fell to the Denver Broncos in a 31-28 heartbreaker. For the Bears, it was their fourth straight loss and fans are, understandably, getting a bit frustrated. It's not all bad news though, as their quarterback Justin Fields seems to have found a bit of rhythm.
Fields, who had an illustrious career at Ohio State before being drafted by Chicago in 2021, had a career day in spite of the loss. The third-year field general recorded 335 passing yards and four touchdowns, both career highs, completing 28-of-35 attempts.
This past weekend's performance hasn't gone unnoticed as Fields has been nominated for the NFL's FedEx Air Player of the Week. He's one of three players up for the award, the other quarterbacks being the Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen and the Philadelphia Eagles Jalen Hurts.
In fairness, Fields stands a pretty solid chance of being named the winner this week, even following the loss. But that doesn't mean, by any stretch of the imagination, that the Bears are out of the woods. Chicago's still yet to win a home game since last September and the future isn't exactly clear.
The former Buckeye started on a hot note, completing 16 straight passes, a Bears all-time record. The second half proved difficult for Fields and Chicago, though, as he committed two turnovers (INT, FUM) in critical moments.
It's going to be a long, steep hill to climb for Fields this year, but the talent is undeniably there.
