Michigan Reveals Commemorative Necklace For Win Over Ohio State
Hail to the victors.
The Michigan Wolverines revealed Friday that their players will receive a necklace for beating the Ohio State Buckeyes in "The Game" Nov. 26, 2022. The Wolverines introduced their first-ever victory necklace for beating the Buckeyes for the first time in 10 years after their 42-27 win in 2021.
The front of the necklace features the date of the 2022 rendition of "The Game" with the word "courageous" inscribed across the top and "faith" and "strong" in each corner.
It also features a sword and shovel which is a reference to head coach Jim Harbaugh's comments at Big Ten Media Days in July 2022, in which he said the Wolverines would continue "attacking and building" towards another Big Ten Championship when asked about the task of traveling to Columbus after beating Ohio State in 2021. The terms "build" and "attack" are inscribed on the back of the necklace.
Also on the back side is an overhead view of Ohio Stadium with the 45-23 final score imprinted on the field.
Where the south end zone should be, the necklace reads "What is our name? Michigan."
Since 1934, Ohio State has gifted its players pairs of gold pants for beating Michigan. Former head coach Francis Schmidt, the mastermind behind the tradition, said it was to symbolize how the Buckeyes put their pants on one leg at a time just like the Wolverines, who had dominated the rivalry to that point with 21 wins in the first 29 contests.
