ESPN Analysts' Snap Judgments of Cleveland Browns' OT Dawand Jones
The Cleveland Browns took a flier on former Ohio State Buckeyes offensive tackle Dawand Jones early in the fourth round.
As the No. 111 selection, the Indianapolis native joined former fellow Buckeye teammate Paris Johnson Jr. as the second Ohio State tackle taken in this year's NFL Draft. After the pick, ESPN analysts Matt Miller and Louis Riddick gushed over Jones' freakish size at 6-8 and 374 pounds with a nearly 88-inch wing span.
Miller said Jones can "absolutely throw guys out of the club," but needs to work on "leverage" and "pad height."
"He started 25 games at Ohio State. You don't do that if you're not a talented player, especially in that RPO zone scheme, so we know he has some movement ability," Miller said on ESPN's draft coverage show Saturday. "Linemen are going to have a long day, they're going to need to pack a lunch to run around him because of that wing span. The quickness is not always there, but the power is a lot like Orlando Brown Jr. was coming out of Oklahoma, where you're going to have to figure out as a pass rusher how to work with him."
Riddick said Jones has "better feet than you think" with a "wide body to get around." However, he did still have questions of his own about Jones' ceiling.
"What will determine his ultimate success is his commitment to the game," Riddick said. "He is a guy, right now, who can be an All-Pro or he can be out of the league in a couple years."
