Ohio State Must Avoid Historic Third-Straight Michigan Loss
Each season for the Ohio State Buckeyes comes down to three achievements in determining their success: beating Michigan, winning the Big Ten, and winning the national championship.
The Buckeyes haven't beaten the Wolverines in the last two meetings, making The Game a "season-defining" moment in 2023 for Ohio State, as said in a recent article by ESPN.
"There's only one answer here in most seasons, and certainly after the past two. Ohio State cannot afford to lose to Michigan again Nov. 25 in Ann Arbor," ESPN said.
"Consecutive losses in The Game have blighted an otherwise successful and significant tenure for Ohio State coach Ryan Day, who has taken the quarterback position to never-before-seen levels in Columbus. Day faced significant backlash after last year's home loss, Ohio State's first to Michigan since 2000."
ESPN also points out that if Michigan finds a way to beat Ohio State again, it would be the first time since 1995-97 that the Wolverines have won three times in a row.
With the two consecutive losses to Michigan, combined with the question marks that Ohio State has entering the season, ESPN believes that the Buckeyes may not be the "clear favorite" on November 25th.
Quarterback is one of those question marks, as the Buckeyes have begun the competition to replace C.J. Stroud under center with spring practice underway.
