WATCH: Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Compared WR Garrett Wilson To Who?
He's been a New York Jet for nine days, but quarterback Aaron Rodgers already has some high praise for former Ohio State Buckeyes receiver Garrett Wilson.
On "The Pat McAfee Show" Tuesday, Rodgers told McAfee and former Ohio State Buckeyes linebacker A.J. Hawk that Wilson reminded him of his former teammate and Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams.
"Obviously, Garrett, he's a talented guy. I threw him a pass today and just kind of turned and was like, 'Wow,'" Rodgers said. "His ability to kind of get in and out of his breaks — there was another No. 17 I played with for a long time who does it better than anybody — but the explosiveness in and out of the breaks to 17 here is pretty similar."
In Wilson's rookie season in which he won Offensive Rookie of the Year, he had 83 receptions for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns. That was on 147 targets, though, meaning 56.5 percent of attempts that went Wilson's way were completed.
He caught passes from Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, Mike White and Chris Streveler last season, but none of them hold a candle to future NFL Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
Since taking over the starting job for the Green Bay Packers in 2008, Rodgers has completed 65.3 percent of his passes, leading the league in completion percentage in 2020 at 70.7.
In Adams' last two seasons in Green Bay, he recorded the two highest single-season receptions with 115 in 2020 and 123 in 2021. He also owns the franchise record for most receiving yards and touchdowns in a single season.
It's safe to assume, with Rodgers under center, that Garrett Wilson's stellar success in his first season will only grow in year 2.
