Ohio State Widening Talent Gap in Big-10?
Under head coach Ryan Day, the Ohio State Buckeyes have not faltered when it comes to finding success on the recruiting trail.
Since Day began in 2019, the Buckeyes have reeled in top-five recruiting classes, as judged by 247Sports, in four of his five years. The only class that didn't rank in the top five was the 2019 class, which could partially be blamed on the fact that it was a transition class between Urban Meyer and Day.
The latest class of newly signed Buckeyes, 2023, finished in fifth behind Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and Oklahoma. But, thanks to AthlonSports ranking the rosters in the Big-10, it shows a potentially widening talent gap between the Buckeyes and the rest of their in-conference opponents.
Ohio State has been atop the Big-10's recruiting rankings for four-straight years, and their 38-3 conference record dating back to 2019 proves what elite recruiting can do for a program.
As for the teams below the Buckeyes, there was a change at No. 2, as the Michigan Wolverines overtook the Penn State Nittany Lions, despite the Wolverines signing the 18th-ranked 2023 class.
As programs like Georgia and Alabama have done before them, stacking elite recruiting classes onto one another gives your program the best shot at winning a national championship.
The Buckeyes fell just short of their goal this past fall in their College Football Playoff Semifinal to the Bulldogs, but judging by the talent on their roster, they looked primed for another run at making the CFP.
