Buckeyes LB Tommy Eichenberg Named 'Top Senior' For 2023 Season
While the buzz surrounding soon-to-be ex Buckeyes remains at an all-time high regarding the NFL draft, the Ohio State Buckeyes can also look forward to some of their returning players next season.
Though the announcement came as a surprise to many, linebacker Tommy Eichenberg will be back for his senior season.
Eichenberg had himself a year last season, giving a reason for Buckeye fans to be excited about his upcoming season. And to add to the excitement, Bleacher Report put the senior at the top of his position class ahead of next season, writing:
After making 64 tackles with 6.5 for loss in 2021, Tommy Eichenberg nearly doubled his contributions last season. He racked up 120 takedowns and 12 TFLs, adding three pass breakups and a pick-six.
Eichenberg received second-team AP All-America honors but decided to stay in Columbus for another year. Once he recovers from hand surgeries, Eichenberg will partner with fellow senior Steele Chambers to lead the OSU defense.
Leading the defense is certainly in the cards for the 6-3 linebacker, though it isn't just the Buckeyes he leads.
Last season, Eichenberg finished top-5 in solo tackles across the NCAA, and proved time and time again why his presence is any quarterback's nightmare.
Coming off of a disappointing loss to Georgia in the Peach Bowl, the Buckeyes will look to once again make waves in the CFP, hoping to add another title to their resume, and if one thing is certain, Eichenberg will be essential to that goal.
Ohio State's spring game is set for April 15 and will be the first time fans can see the senior in action before the regular season. Kickoff is set for 11:05 p.m. CT.
