Ohio State Interested In Multi-Sport Ole Miss DT Transfer

The Ohio State Buckeyes have their eye on a defensive tackle in the transfer portal who would also be able to mash home runs at Bill Davis Stadium.

If the Ohio State Buckeyes land former Ole Miss Rebels defensive tackle Tywone Malone, both Ryan Day and Bill Mosiello will be happy.

Malone entered the transfer portal after his redshirt freshman season in Oxford with three years of eligibility remaining and has heard from Ohio State, as well as Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Miami, Florida State, USC and Oregon, per reports. The defensive tackle also played for the Rebels' championship-winning baseball team, hitting two home runs in nine at-bats in 2022.

Malone was recruited by defensive line coach Larry Johnson and received an offer, but picked the Rebels as the 63rd-best player in the class of 2021, the No. 11 defensive lineman and the top player in New Jersey.

The defensive lineman played in one game and redshirted his freshman season, appearing in 13 games last season and recording 10 tackles, one for loss, one sack and two passes defended.

The Jamesburg, N.J. native had 10 at-bats for the Ole Miss baseball team in 2023 and had one hit: a home run.

The Buckeyes will look to rotate five interior defensive linemen next season as Mike Hall Jr., Tyleik Williams, Ty Hamilton, Jaden McKenzie and Hero Kanu will likely all see significant snap counts at various times.

However, Johnson is never opposed to adding more depth, rotating as many as 12 players on the defensive line over the course of a game to keep players ready to play at 100 percent. With Hall's injury woes last season, it may be important Ohio State to land Malone.
