Emily Ruck Pitches Perfect Game In Ohio State Softball Win vs. Canisius

Ruck's seamless five innings gave her the first perfect game in 16 years for the Buckeyes during the opening day of the Beach Chicken Brawl tournament.

Ohio State junior pitcher Emily Ruck allowed no hits or runs Friday as the Buckeyes softball team defeated Canisius in five innings, 8-0.

Ruck's perfect performance was the first for the Buckeyes since Jamee Juarez in 2007 against IUPUI. Additionally, this was Ruck's second no-hitter of her career, keeping the plate cool previously on March 13, 2022 against the UMass.

The game last year against UMass also featured 11 strikeouts for Ruck, a career high which was bested by her 12 K's against Canisius on Friday.

Ruck's special outing was part of Ohio State's time on the campus of Coastal Carolina University for the Beach Chicken Brawl. The Buckeyes began with a 6-4 loss to their tournament hosts earlier on Friday, before blanking the Golden Griffins.

Ohio State earned two more wins on Saturday against Houston Christian, 5-4, and once again against Canisius, 5-0 this time. The final game of the tournament, a rematch against Coastal Carolina, was scheduled for Sunday but canceled due to rain.

All told, Ruck had 10.2 innings of work over the weekend, allowing nine hits and four earned runs over 40 at-bats while dishing out 17 strikeouts. Ruck walked a single batter during her days in the circle, and saw action in the first three games of the tournament before sitting out of the final contest on Saturday.

Next up for Ruck and the Buckeyes is a trip out to Charleston, South Carolina for a pair of games against Charleston Southern, followed by a single contest with the College of Charleston.
