Ohio State Signee Devin Royal Sets Pickerington Central Scoring Record
Ohio State Buckeyes signee Devin Royal dropped 28 points in a 59-51 win against Westerville South High School, becoming the Pickerington Central High School's all-time leading scorer.
The record was previously held by former Ohio State and Houston Rockets forward Jae'Sean Tate who scored 1,489 points.
Royal's effort helped the Tigers advance to the regional final where they'll face Olentangy Orange High School Saturday. With a win, Pickerington Central will advance to the Ohio High School Athletic Association state semifinal game.
The four-star power forward is currently ranked No. 49 in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports.
Head coach Chris Holtmann said on his radio show on 97.1 The Fan on Feb. 20 that Royal is going to be "tremendous."
"Devin's kind of a multi-dimensional forward," Holtmann said. "Obviously people in Columbus, in our state know Devin Royal, what he can be and how exciting he is."
Royal is the third-best-rated recruit in the Buckeyes' No. 6-ranked incoming class behind No. 36 Taison Chatman and No. 43 Scotty Middleton.
The Pickerington, OH. native was named one of seven finalists for Ohio Mr. Basketball Thursday. The winner will be announced on March 22.
