Los Angeles U.S. Open: Buckeyes to Watch

The Buckeyes are represented by Ryan Armour, making his first U.S. Open start, and current Ohio State player Maxwell Moldovan, who is making his second start after missing the cut last year.

The 123rd U.S. Open tees off on Thursday from the Los Angeles Country Club in Los Angeles, California. It's the third major of the season and the first time in 70 years that the USGA has played the U.S. Open in the City of Angels. There couldn't be a better backdrop for the star-studded cast you'll find at the event this week.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are represented by two golfers. Ryan Armour is making his first U.S. Open appearance since turning pro in 1999. It's his fourth major and third different one, having previously played in two PGA Championships and one British Open (all missed cuts). Armour was a Third-Team All-American in 1998 when he played for the Buckeyes and was an All-Big Ten selection in both 1995 and 1998.

The second Buckeye to keep an eye on this week is current Buckeyes golf star, Maxwell Moldovan. Moldovan made the field as a first alternate after finishing just behind the final qualifiers a couple of weeks ago. It's his second U.S. Open after he played last year at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. In 2022, Moldovan shot 75-72 on Thursday and Friday and missed the cut for the weekend. He was a unanimous First-Team All-Big Ten selection in both 2022 and 2023.

Armour tees off at 10:18 a.m. ET on Thursday while Moldovan will begin his round at 3:26 p.m. ET.
