Ohio State is the nation's hottest college football recruiting program in the month of April, with five commitments boosting pledge numbers into the double-digits as of Tuesday night's get of Texas linebacker Payton Pierce

The state wrestling champion is only the second defensive pledge for Ryan Day's program to date, but more are trending the Buckeyes' way with the deeper into spring football has gone.

It's largely because of the unofficial visits taking place in Columbus, something defensive back projection Miles Lockhart again took advantage of to start the week Monday. The return trip to town reaffirmed Ohio State's lead in his vast recruitment, he told Blair Angulo

"All the meetings I had with the coaches were great," Lockhart said. "My family and I sat down and talked with coach Day for a while and it was cool getting to know more about him and all the other coaches beyond football.”

The latest trip to Columbus offered time to watch practice and sit down with more assistant coaches than on previous visits to the program.

“I was finally able to be in a meeting with coach Tim Walton with all the DBs in there, so it was my first time really seeing how he coaches and it was definitely dope as he has so much knowledge about the game,” Lockhart said. “They let me know that I am a top priority for them and they would love to have me.”

The Chandler (Ariz.) Basha standout, who was also in town for the Michigan game and has an official visit to Columbus planned for the month of June, has verbal commitment plans for July 6.

Ranked as high as a four-star as the No. 18 cornerback in the class of 2024 (247Sports), Lockhart is tabbed a three-star elsewhere in the industry.
