Oklahoma royalty is moving on.

Jacob Switzer, a walk-on quarterback at OU and the grandson of "The King," Hall of Fame coach Barry Switzer, has reportedly entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

The news was first reported Friday by On3 transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos.

Jacob Switzer came to OU last spring as a walk-on transfer from Southeastern Louisiana. The 6-foot-2, 193-pound Switzer played high school football at Prestonwood Christian in Plano, TX.

A fourth-year junior, Switzer will have two seasons of eligibility.

Switzer didn't get to play in any games, but made his name last year as one of the Sooners' top scout-team quarterbacks. He also provided plenty of value in passing drills in 2023 practices as coaches tried not to heap too many reps on starter Dillon Gabriel and backup Jackson Arnold.

In three seasons on the Prestonwood varsity, he played in 17 games and passed for 1,590 yards (.554 completion percentage) with 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

He began his college career by walking on at Arkansas, then transferred to Southeastern Louisiana.

The Sooners' quarterback room suffered its departures this offseason, with Gabriel going to Oregon and third-string QB Davis Beville heading to South Carolina. But new quarterbacks coach Seth Littrell landed two incoming recruits in Michael Hawkins and Brendan Zurbrugg, and Kevin Sperry is still committed in the 2025 class.

Former Texas and Nebraska QB Casey Thompson is expected to be Arnold's backup in 2024 after he recovers from a knee injury last season at Florida Atlantic.
