Oklahoma’s hottest hitter gets rewarded for his efforts.

After yet another massive week with the bat, OU freshman catcher Easton Carmichael picked up some hardware on Monday as he was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.

In five games against UNLV and Houston, Carmichael went a completely absurd 12-for-21 (.571) at the plate, racking up an outrageous 13 RBIs to help the Sooners win all five contests.

The Prosper, TX native hit two home runs and two triples on the week, crossing home plate six times in what has been a big offensive stretch for Oklahoma.

In the wins against the Rebels and Cougars, Carmichael sported an on-base percentage of .591 while slugging 1.048 - giving him an obscene OPS of 1.639 for the week.

With OU playing very well currently having won nine of their last ten games, Carmichael has been right at the center of the success with a bat that has been the hottest on the team in a lineup full of guys hitting at a high-level.

Currently riding a seven-game hitting streak, the Sooners backstop has risen his batting average all the way up to .433 on the year with 25 RBIs.

Carmichael marks the first OU player to bring home a Big 12 weekly award on the young season, with Oklahoma State’s Roc Riggio and Juaron Watts-Brown winning the Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively.

After a day away from game action on Monday, the Sooners return to play at Wichita State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Wichita, KS.
