OU Baseball: Oklahoma Downs Houston For Fourth Straight Win
The wins just keep on coming for Oklahoma.
After smashing Houston in the series opener on Friday night, the Sooners continued their three-game set with their future Big 12 foe on Saturday night at Schroeder Park.
While it took a little bit for the offensive fireworks to start, the bats went to work again as it would once more be Oklahoma (10-5) coming out on top as they downed the Cougars (5-9) 8-3 for their fourth straight win.
Getting the start on a Saturday for the first time this year was right-hander Braxton Douthit (2-0), who turned in a tremendous performance on the road.Β
The Lamar transfer tossed seven dominant innings allowing just two hits and one unearned run while striking out four.Β
While it was certainly a strong outing for Douthit, the Cougars would strike against him early with an RBI double in the opening inning to give UH a quick 1-0 lead.
That advantage wouldnβt last long, though, as Oklahoma evened things back up the following frame on an RBI groundout off the bat of Easton Carmichael.
The Sooners then jumped in front two innings later on a home run sent out to left field by Bryce Madron.
OU plated another in the fifth, with Carmichael scampering across on an RBI sacrifice bunt by Sebastian Orduno.
Oklahoma kept the offense rolling in the sixth, with Anthony Mackenzie coming across to score on a sacrifice fly from Jackson Nicklaus to make it a 4-1 OU advantage.
The huge blow of the game then came from Carmichael, who continues to absolutely pulverize the baseball.Β
The OU catcher lifted a three-run home run out to center field to double the Sooners' lead to 7-1 and effectively put the game on ice.Β
Oklahoma added a third blast one inning later just for good measure, with Mackenzie popping a solo shot to make it 8-1.Β
The Cougars would get a couple runs back in the eighth, but it only made a slight dent in what would go on to be a comfortable OU victory.Β
The win is Oklahomaβs eighth in their last nine games - continuing a now extended stretch of high-level baseball.
Riding a lot of momentum, the Sooners look for the sweep in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. back at Schroeder Park in Houston.Β
