The Sooners tightened their grip on first place in the Big 12 standings with a strong pitching performance by James Hitt and some timely hits by Michael Snyder.

It was a Saint Patrick’s Day sweep.

Oklahoma stayed undefeated in Big 12 Conference play on Sunday, taking down No. 12-ranked TCU for the third day in a row with a 9-4 victory over the Horned Frogs at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth.

OU improved to 13-6 overall and 6-0 in Big 12 play while TCU fell to 15-5 and 1-5. I(t's OU's first ever three-game sweep of TCU in Fort Worth.

Left hander James Hitt (2-1) pitched 5 2/3 quality innings for the Sooners and Michael Snyder drove in three runs, including his sixth home run of the season, as OU rolled to another victory.

Hitt scattered seven hits and didn’t strike out anyone, but he allowed just one walk and four runs on 92 pitches.

The OU bullpen was up to the task for the third say in a row, as Dylan Crooks, Carson Atwood and Ryan Lambert combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings. The Sooners took a 6-0 lead after scoring twice in the first, three times in the fourth and once in the fifth, then after a TCU rally put it away with three runs in the top of the ninth.

Easton Carmichael’s RBI groundout sent home Kendall Pettis, and Bryce Madron scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

OU took a 3-0 lead on Carter Frederick’s RBI single to score Jackson Nicklaus. That was followed by Jason Walk’s RBI single to right that scored Frederick for a 4-0 lead. Pettis’ RBI groundout plated Isaiah Lane to make it 5-0 in the fourth.

Snyder’s solo homer to center field pushed OU’s lead to 6-0.

TCU responded with a three-run home run in the fifth and a solo shot in the sixth, cutting the Sooners’ edge to 6-4.

But Snyder wasn’t finished, ripping a 2-2 pitch into center field to score Madron and Pettis and swelling the lead back to 8-4. Carmichael tacked on a run when he drew a walk and later scored on a passed ball.

The Sooners open an eight-game home stand with a Tuesday night game against Dallas Baptist at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
