Williams Nwaneri, a 5-star defensive lineman from Lee's Summit North (MO) High School, announced on Twitter that he will make his way to Norman for an official visit June 9-11.

Hailing from the Kansas City area, Nwaneri is listed at 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds, earning a 5-star rating from ESPN, On3 and 247Sports. Both On3 and 247Sports rank the Broncos' standout as the nation's No. 1 DL and one of the top three players in the entire country in the 2024 class.

Nwaneri's trip to Norman was originally scheduled for June 16-18, the dates of OU's ChampU BBQ recruiting spectacle. Per his announcement on Tuesday evening, however, the standout pass rusher will swap this date with the original date of his visit to Tennessee.

While the Sooners' would surely like to have Nwaneri in Norman from June 16-18 to showcase the campus during their special recruiting weekend, Oklahoma fans should take solace in the fact that OU is getting an official visit from such a highly- touted defensive prospect.

Nwaneri's head coach, Jamar Mozee, played for the Sooners under Bob Stoops on Oklahoma's 2000 National Championship team. Also, his former high school teammate is Sooners offensive tackle Cayden Green.

While Nwaneri's decision is his own to make, having a coach who is familiar with the Sooners could be a massive aid for Brent Venables and company.

OU is currently the favorite to land Nwaneri, with the 247Sports Crystal Ball and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine both projecting the Sooners to earn a commitment from the nation's top d-lineman. Once again, as with Xadavien Sims, Oklahoma is in a recruiting battle with Oregon for an impressive defender, who will head to Eugene Sept. 23-24.

Texas A&M and Tennessee seem to be OU's biggest competitors for the 5-star recruit at the moment, however.

"(Texas A&M is) up there with Oklahoma and Tennessee at the top right now," Nwaneri told On3 after taking a trip to College Station earlier in May. "I got a good idea about Texas A&M and I really liked it all."

If Venables and defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis are able to land Nwaneri, it would be a big recruiting victory for the Sooners. After landing 5-star edge P.J. Adebawore in the 2023 recruiting cycle, Chavis and Venables could turn heads nationally by bringing in another 5-star pass-rusher from Missouri in 2024.
