A University of Oklahoma football player collapsed and was taken to a local hospital on Thursday.

That news was first reported by KOCO-TV’s Alyse Jones on Twitter just past 12:30 Thursday afternoon.

An OU athletic spokesman confirmed the news in a statement emailed to AllSooners.

“At the end of this morning’s OU football team workout, a player experienced an exertion collapse and was immediately attended to by the team’s medical staff,” the statement said. “As a precautionary measure, he was transported to a local hospital for further care. He is responsive and it is anticipated he will be released today.”

Later in the afternoon, OU released a statement on Twitter.

The player was later identified in numerous media reports.

OU offensive lineman Tyler Guyton posted a tweet at 8:21 a.m. Thursday that said, “Please send Prayers. Football is just a game we play.”

That prompted a flurry of inquiries, and AllSooners learned from sources that a player had collapsed.

Guyton’s tweet was later deleted, but other players on the team have posted various well-wishes on social media.

Players are currently going through their pre-spring offseason workouts. They can participate in a limited number of position drills before spring practice begins on March 22.
