Blake Smith has a new home.

The former Oklahoma tight end, who entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Jan. 2 after just one season at OU, announced Sunday that he’ll play this coming season at Texas State.

The 6-foot-4, 256-pound Smith, who played in high school at Southlake (TX) Carroll, began his career at Texas A&M, where he played from 2020-22. He saw limited action with the Aggies, redshirting with zero snaps in 2020, playing in two games in 2021 and finding his way into five games in 2022.

After playing 76 snaps his first two seasons, Smith played 92 offensive snaps for the Sooners in 2023, according to Pro Football Focus. He graded out at 55.5 or better in every game, with three games over 60.0.

At OU last season, Smith played in nine games as a backup tight end as well as multiple special teams. In his career, he had two receptions at A&M and two at OU.

His highlight for the Sooners was a 28-yard touchdown in the season-opening win over Arkansas State. He also caught a touchdown pass last year in the spring game.
