Oklahoma 4-star DB Target Releases Top Five

The Sooners learned on Wednesday that they are one of the final five schools for a talented local defensive back.
In this story:

Devon Jordan, a 4-star 2024 defensive back from Tulsa Union, announced his top five schools on Wednesday.

The talented cornerback from Tulsa included Oklahoma, Alabama, TCU, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State in his top five.

Jordan was in Norman over the summer for OU's massive ChampU BBQ recruiting event and has visited other schools, like Texas A&M and Alabama, since his trip to Norman.

In late June, Jordan released a top 10 list. Now, the 4-star DB has cut out Kansas State, Iowa State, Miami, Missouri and Vanderbilt.

Listed at 6-foot and 170 pounds, Jordan has great intangibles at the cornerback position. With a 10.71 100-meter dash time and very long arms, the Union standout possesses multiple traits that every defensive back coach seems to value.

According to 247Sports, Jordan is one of the top 30 cornerbacks in the nation and one of the top five players in Oklahoma. In week one of the high school football season, Jordan and the Union Redhawks will meet 2024 OU safety commit Mykel Patterson-McDonald and the Westmoore Jaguars.

Earlier in the summer, Patterson-McDonald said that he was friends with Jordan and that the two had discussed playing together in college. When asked what game he had circled on Westmoore's schedule, Patterson-McDonald was quick to answer.

"Union. That Union game, it's going to be a big game," Patterson-McDonald said. "It's a few kids I know there, like Devon Jordan. It's going to be really good competition, top-five kid in the state, top three. Good competition."

AllSooners caught up with Jordan earlier in the summer to discuss his recruitment.

The coveted defender said that he appreciates how personable the OU coaching staff is and discussed how the Sooners' have made an effort to develop a close relationship with Jordan.

"I have a strong relationship with Coach (Jay) Valai," Jordan said. "Coach Valai, he actually flew down in a private jet to come see me workout. ... When I went to the spring game, Coach (Brent) Venables, he actually brought me down to the field. I was the only recruit that got to come to the middle of the field. ... It meant a lot to me."

If Oklahoma is able to land Jordan over Alabama and Texas A&M, two future conference opponents, it would be a big win on the recruiting trail for Venables, Valai and company. Jordan could join a defensive back group of Patterson-McDonald, Jaydan Hardy and Jeremiah Newcombe in OU's 2024 class if the Union cornerback ends up committing to the Sooners.
