Long speculated, but now confirmed by the head man himself.

In an interview with the “Voice of the Sooners” Toby Rowland on 94.7 KREF Thursday morning, Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione confirmed that OU will be unveiling former quarterback Kyler Murray’s Heisman Park statue at April’s Spring Game.

“We expect another big turnout,” Castiglione said of the Spring Game. “And, of course, we’re planning to unveil Kyler Murray’s Hesiman statue. So there will be a lot going on.”

This has been widely expected to be the case for the Sooners, with OU President Joe Harroz even referencing as much at a board of regents meeting last May.

“We celebrated Baker Mayfield and the Heisman statue,” Harroz said, referencing the 2022 Spring Game. “We’ll do that again next year. Kind of an annual event for us at OU.”

When Murray’s statue goes up outside of Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, he will join the rest of the OU Heisman winners in Billy Vessels, Steve Owens, Billy Sims, Jason White, Sam Bradford and Baker Mayfield - who had his statue unveiled as the 2022 Spring Game.

In his lone season as the primary starter of the Sooners, Murray dazzled, completing 69 percent of his passes for 4,361 yards and 42 touchdowns with an additional 1,001 yards on the ground with 12 more scores.

He led the Sooners to an 11-1 regular season record, beating Texas to win the Big 12 title and clinch OU a berth in the College Football Playoff.

Now, he will officially be immortalized outside of Oklahoma’s home stadium forever among the other Sooners legends.

The statue unveiling and OU’s annual Red/White scrimmage are set for Saturday, April 22 at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman.
