Oklahoma Adds Another In-State O-Lineman

A member of the 2023 recruiting class, Kenny Wermy started in the Blue Grey All-America Game and was a standout offensive and defensive lineman at Cache.

Oklahoma has added another in-state star to the football roster.

Kenny Wermy, an offensive lineman from Cache, announced Wednesday that he has committed to play for the Sooners. The announcement came via Twitter.

The 6-foot-6, 306-pound Wermy is a member of the 2023 recruiting class. It is believed Wermy will be a preferred walk-on for Bill Bedenbaugh’s o-line group.

Wermy, a citizen of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, started at right tackle for the East squad at the Blue Grey High School All-America Game on Dec. 19 at AT&T Stadium.

Wermy had also “shown interest” in Oklahoma State, according to his On3 profile, including a couple of unofficial visits to Stillwater in April for the spring game and October for the Cowboys’ comeback win over Texas.

According to 247 Sports, Wermy was among the top performers at a “Down and Dirty” camp for linemen at Oklahoma State last June.

Underscoring Brent Venables' determination to rebuild relations in the state of Oklahoma, Wermy is the latest Oklahoma native to announced their plans to walk on for the Sooners.

C.J. Compton (6-6, 290) from Bethel committed to OU on Tuesday, and Drew Batt (6-8, 250) from Turpin pledged to OU last Wednesday.

In 2021, before Wermy’s junior season, Cache head coach Faron Griffin described some of the things he likes and appreciates about Wermy.

“He works really hard, does everything we ask him to do, he has a tremendous amount of ability and of course he’s got size that is catching the attention of all the big schools,” Griffin told the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribal Tribune.

“He plays offense and defensive line for us and really made a lot of great tackles on defense, disrupted the other team’s offense quite a bit and offensively we were able to run the ball successfully behind him because he blocked so well. He’s a great young man and we’re happy to have him on our team.”

Wermy told the Tribal Tribune in 2021 he likes "the excitement and the feel of the game. “ ... Just playing with my team, working hard and doing what we can do to make it to the state championship,.”
