Oklahoma's 2024 recruiting class got a big addition on Friday.

Odessa (TX) wide receiver Ivan Carreon verbally committed to the Sooners. The 6-foot-6 pass catcher announced his decision via Twitter on Friday afternoon.

Carreon was committed to Texas Tech until Thursday, when the 4-star wideout announced on Twitter that he was reopening his recruitment. The West Texas native had been committed to the Red Raiders since December of 2022 prior to his decommitment.

Carreon chose the Sooners' over Purdue, Texas Tech and Texas State.

Carreon was recruited to Texas Tech by current Sooners' coach Emmett Jones, who left Lubbock to take a job at OU this offseason. With Jones on board, Oklahoma successfully flipped Carreon after the star wide receiver visited Norman for the ChampU BBQ.

Prior to that, Carreon was on campus for the Brent Venables Elite Camp, where the Broncos' standout showed off his impressive route tree.

Carreon got open on almost every rep in one-on-one drills at the Venables Camp, turning heads of media members and coaches alike. After a good showing in the morning session, Carreon was taken into Brent Venables office and extended an offer.

Now that he is committed to the Sooners, Carreon has already gotten the attention of some other big-time OU targets like Davon Mitchell.

Since picking up an offer from the Sooners', Carreon was reportedly trending towards Oklahoma, similar to OU's acquisition of Gavin Freeman in the 2022 recruiting cycle.

As a junior, Carreon caught 51 passes for 1,168 yards and 21 total touchdowns, helping earn the Odessa High wideout a consensus 4-star rating. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, Carreon is one of the top 15 wide receivers in the country according to ESPN.

Aside from football, Carreon also excels in basketball as well as track and field, competing in hurdles and the high jump. With such a well rounded athletic profile, the rising senior has the potential to develop into a very high end wide receiver.

After his decommitment from TTU, there was some belief that Carreon would join 2024 Midland Legacy QB Marcos Davila at Purdue. With Jeff Lebby coveting big bodied playmakers on the outside, however, it is no surprise that Carreon was a primary target for OU's coaching staff.

The towering pass catcher is the Sooners' fourth wideout in Oklahoma's 2024 recruiting class, joining Zion Kearney, KJ Daniels and Dozie Ezukanma. Additionally, Carreon marks OU's fifth commitment in the past two weeks, illustrating that Venables and company are beginning to pick up momentum on the recruiting trail.
