MIDWEST CITY — Oklahoma has landed a 2024 running back.

Carl Albert senior Xavier Robinson committed to the Sooners on Tuesday evening during an announcement at his high school.

The 3-star tailback from Oklahoma City chose the Sooners over Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and others.

"I'm gonna take my talents to the University of Oklahoma," he told the crowd.

When asked what set the Sooners' apart from the other schools in Robinson's recruitment, the Titans star cited his relationship with OU running backs coach DeMarco Murray. The OKC native also mentioned that he grew up watching Oklahoma.

"OU, I mean, I always loved watching that school growing up," Robinson said. "It's a great program... Great support system, great standard for success... It's really a blessing to be here."

Winning the recruiting battle for Robinson is a huge victory for Brent Venables, Murray and company, who did not have a running back committed in the 2024 class prior to Robinson's announcement.

Robinson will join quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. and wideouts KJ Daniels, Zion Kearney and Dozie Ezukanma in OU's 2024 skill position group. With only one offensive lineman committed in the upcoming cycle (OT Isaiah Autry), the Sooners will need to earn a few pledges up front to protect their new running back commit.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, the Carl Albert standout is one of the top five players in Oklahoma, according to Rivals and ESPN. As a junior, Robinson ran for 2,594 yards and 39 touchdowns, helping lead the Titans to another state title.

Recently, 2025 OU quarterback commit Kevin Sperry announced that he was moving to OKC, and would be attending Carl Albert.

"I admire (Sperry) as a QB," Robinson said. "He can really make a really big impact."

Now with two Sooners' pledges on the team, Oklahoma will likely have a better chance to land fellow 2025 OU offers like Trynae Washington, Trystan Haynes and Marcus James, who all play for the Titans.

Robinson also noted that he is going to attempt to get 4-star Westmoore (OK) defensive back Mykel Patterson-McDonald and 5-star IMG Academy (FL) defensive lineman David Stone on board in Oklahoma's 2024 class.

"David Stone is the main key, cause once you get David Stone, that can bring a lot of other guys that he has relationships with," Robinson said. "I also want to bring Mykel (Patterson-McDonald) in. He's a great guy. He's very mature, we always played against each other growing up and I would love to be on a team with him."

With talented ball carriers like Taylor Tatum and Caden Durham still uncommitted, the Sooners have a solid chance at bringing in one of the nation's top-rated backs to join Robinson in what would be an impressive backfield duo in the 2024 class.

Tuesday night's commitment marks a huge in-state recruiting victory for Murray and Oklahoma, who will successfully keep an offensive player with big-time potential in state, if they can sign him in December. Robinson told reporters after his commitment that he plans on graduating early from high school and enrolling at OU in January.

Sooners' coaches have played the recruiting game patiently, which has made some fans nervous. But with three commitments in the past week following two straight big hosting weekends in Norman — including last week's Champ U BBQ — the Sooners are clearly beginning to heat up on the recruiting trail.
