Oklahoma has begun addressing its 2023 needs on the offensive line with a pledge  Tuesday via the transfer portal.

The Sooners landed a commitment from Caleb Shaffer, a graduate transfer from Miami University in Ohio. Shaffer made the announcement on Twitter after visiting the OU campus.

Shaffer, from Carmel, IN, has loads of experience, starting all 12 games for the RedHawks in 2022 and all 13 games in 2021, earning Academic All-Mid American Conference honors last year. He played in all three Miami games in 2020, and played in 12 games in 2019, including the final seven as a starter at guard.

In 2022, the 6-foot-5, 333-pound Shaffer — whose coach at Miami was former OU offensive line coach James Patton — was third on the team with 717 offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

He graded out at 68.2 on pass blocking this season (second among Miami offensive linemen) and 58.7 on run blocking (second).
