Oklahoma has made the offer to one of its own.

The Sooners on Tuesday offered a scholarship to 2024 tight end Cooper Alexander, who’s father Stephen Alexander played for OU from 1994-97 before embarking on a 10-year NFL career.

Alexander made the announcement Tuesday via Twitter.

Cooper Alexander, a 247 Sports 3-star prospect, is a rising senior at Washington High School just outside of Norman, where he teams with 4-star tight end Nate Roberts. Last year the Warriors went 15-0 and won the state championship.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Alexander currently holds scholarship offers from nearly a dozen FBS schools, including Iowa State, Colorado, Duke, Pittsburgh, Stanford and Tulsa.

His father played at OU under Gary Gibbs, Howard Schnellenberger and John Blake and caught 104 passes for 1,591 yards and six touchdowns. His best year was 1995, when the Sooners were 5-5-1 and Alexander caught 43 passes for 580 yards and two TDs. He ranked seventh in the Big Eight Conference in catches and yards and was accorded first-team All-Big Eight honors in 1995 and second-team All-Big 12 in 1997.

In the NFL, Alexander played in 118 games (99 starts) for Washington, San Diego, Detroit and Denver. He played professionally from 1998-2006, made the Pro Bowl in 2000, and landed 247 receptions for 2,519 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Alexander’s best game as a pro came in the 2002 finale, when he caught eight passes for 129 yards and a TD in the Chargers’ 31-28 loss to Seattle.

Alexander earned high school All-America accolades at Chickasha, including Super Prep Magazine Player of the Year, USA Today and ESPN All-America and the Jim Thorpe Award as the top player in Oklahoma.
