Oklahoma QB Commit Michael Hawkins Competes at Elite 11

Hawkins has spent the last two days representing the Sooners at one of the top showcases in the nation for high school signal callers.

Rising senior quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. is in Los Angeles for the Elite 11 Finals this weekend after being named a finalist last month.

The Frisco Emerson (TX) star has been competing against some of the top QBs in his recruiting cycle over the past 72 hours, including high profile names like Ohio State commit Air Noland, Alabama pledge Julian Sayin and Georgia commit Dylan Raiola. With some of 2024's top passers in attendance, the pressure is on for Hawkins to showcase his arm strength and accuracy.

According to Charles Power, Hawkins went 5-of-12 through the air in the 7 v. 7 portion of the Elite 11 Finals. The Dallas-area standout had a solid showing on day two, connecting on 70 percent of his passes.

"It was a decent outing for Oklahoma commit Michael Hawkins. We charted him as accurate on 14/20 passes," Power said of Hawkins. "He showed a quick release and had some nice passes, but a few he’d want back. The Elite 11 staff score for Hawkins was 36."

The Sooners' future QB turned heads on the first day of the event, impressing scouts with his arm talent. This is similar to what Hawkins showcased at the Brent Venables Elite Camp, easily getting the ball over 45 yards downfield and into the outstretched arms of his target.

Cody Bellaire, a Scouting and Rankings Assistant for On3, had a positive outlook on Hawkins' opening day performance.

"Oklahoma commit Michael Hawkins has the ability to make the ball jump out of his hand despite his lack of mechanically sound footwork and arm action," Bellaire wrote after the first day of competition. "He showed the to ability to drive the football downfield. I’m looking forward to seeing his journey with his mechanics improve as he continues to work throughout the week."

Hawkins' participation in the Elite 11 makes it difficult for him to simultaneously attend this weekend's ChampU BBQ in Norman, which will feature over 20 high school prospects taking visits to OU. The leader of Oklahoma's 2024 class was on campus last weekend, however, helping the Sooners' coaching staff out on what was also an important weekend for recruiting.

Hawkins is the son of former OU defensive back Michael Hawkins Sr., who played for Oklahoma under Bob Stoops before spending multiple years in the NFL.
