Oklahoma star quarterback Dillon Gabriel announced on Monday morning that he will enter the transfer portal.

Gabriel was a two-year starter for the Sooners who racked up 6,828 passing yards and 73 total touchdowns after initially transferring to Norman from UCF. In his two seasons at OU, Gabriel played in and started 24 games, missing only the 2022 Red River Rivalry after suffering a concussion against TCU.

In 2023, Gabriel etched his legacy in Sooner lore by becoming the first Oklahoma QB to throw for 250 yards and rush for 100 yards against Texas, leading OU down the field for a game winning drive with just over a minute on the clock.

Now that former Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby taking over as the head coach at Mississippi State, there is a chance that Gabriel takes interest in the Bulldogs. Lebby was also Gabriel's offensive coordinator in Orlando.

Gabriel was head coach Brent Venables' first starting QB following Caleb Williams and Lincoln Riley's departure for USC. Prior to his time at Oklahoma, Gabriel spent three seasons at Central Florida.

With Gabriel now in the portal, 5-star true freshman Jackson Arnold will take over for the Sooners. So far in 2023, the Denton Guyer (TX) product has gone 18-of-24 for 202 yards and two touchdowns.

After Gabriel suffered an upper-body injury against BYU, Arnold played the entire second half in Provo and led OU to a victory over the Cougars.

It is unclear whether or not Gabriel will suit up on Dec. 28 when No. 12 Oklahoma takes on No. 14 Arizona in the Alamo Bowl.

The talented signal caller is in the top 10 in career passing yards and touchdowns for an FBS quarterback, making him one of the top players to enter the portal this year.

Gabriel is the fourth Sooner to enter the transfer portal since the regular season ended, joining Jason Llewellyn, Tawee Walker and DJ Graham.
