Oklahoma vs. Kansas Forced Into Weather Delay

Midway through the second quarter, weather forced the battle between No. 6 Oklahoma and Kansas into a delay.

LAWRENCE, KS — Oklahoma’s final trip to Lawrence just got extended.

With 7:50 left until halftime, the battle between No. 6 OU and the Kansas Jayhawks was delayed for severe weather.

At the time of the delay, the Sooners trail KU 14-7, but Jeff Lebby’s offense had finally found some momentum.

Lineup changes bringing in Jacob Sexton for Walter Rouse at left tackle, Cayden Green for Savion Byrd at left guard and the return of running back Tawee Walker kickstarted OU’s running game.

Oklahoma rushed for 35 yards on its first touchdown drive, cutting the deficit in half, and then linebacker Kobie McKinzie and safety Reggie Pearson combined for a key third down pass breakup to force a Kansas three-and-out.

Marching again, OU moved the ball from its own 41-yard line to the Kansas 41-yard line before the game was put into a delay.

Kansas’ offense had totaled 124 yards at the time of the delay, but the Jayhawks were aided by a Dillon Gabriel pick-six to open scoring.

Now, both teams must wait for lightning to clear the area.

Once there is no strike for 30 minutes, both locker rooms will empty and warmups will resume on Fox.

It was announced at 12:30 that the teams would try to resume play at 12:45 but would continue to monitor the surrounding weather situation.

OU’s last trip here in 2021 was also delayed, but because of an electrical outage throughout the stadium.

The Sooners’ win at The Booth in 2019 was also delayed 30 minutes by a lightning delay in the first quarter.
