The hunt for Oklahoma's newest offensive coordinator apparently didn't take long.

Just two days after Mississippi State announced that former OU offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby would be the Bulldogs' next head coach, George Stoia of SoonerScoop.com reported that Brent Venables will promote offensive analyst Seth Littrell and tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley to be the team's co-offensive coordinators.

Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, two sources told AllSooners to expect an announcement Tuesday night that Littrell and Finley would be in line for a promotion.

It's unclear yet if this is a permanent assignment or if Venables' move is just for the upcoming bowl game. An OU spokesman told AllSooners a formal announcement wasn't anticipated as of Tuesday night.

Both Littrell and Finley played at Oklahoma and have had success at other stops in their coaching career.

Before returning to Norman, Littrell was most recently North Texas' head coach while Finley's previous stop was Mississippi. Prior to his stint at UNT, Littrell was an offensive coordinator at North Carolina, Indiana and Arizona.

Littrell is originally from Muskogee, OK, and played fullback on the Sooners' 2000 national championship squad. Littrell's father, Jimmy Littrell, was also a national champion fullback at Oklahoma.

Finley played at OU under Kevin Wilson, who went on to become a head coach himself. After a brief stretch as a practice squad player in the NFL, Finley went on to become a tight ends coach at Missouri and Texas A&M prior to joining Lebby in Oxford.

Retaining Finley was important for the Sooners as the former OU tight end played an integral part in winning 4-star tight end Davon Mitchell's recruitment. Promoting Littrell and Finley will help Brent Venables and company maintain as much continuity as possible in the wake of Lebby's departure.
