After a rough stretch of in-state recruiting for Porter Moser and company, the Sooners finally got a win on the recruiting trail Thursday evening.

Dayton Forsythe, a 3-star 2024 point guard from Shawnee, OK, committed to OU on Thursday night.

The Dale High School product announced his decision on Twitter, choosing the Sooners over Oklahoma State, Wichita State, Villanova and others.

After missing out on a number of talented in-state prospects like Bryce Thompson, Brandon Garrison, T.O. Barrett, David Castillo and more, Forsythe's commitment is a huge win on the recruiting trail for Porter Moser and company.

"It’s just always been something that i’ve dreamed about, being an Oklahoma kid, going to games," Forsythe told The Sports Animal's Mark Rodgers. "It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, put on the Crimson and Cream and represent my state."

Forsythe said he told family and friends Wednesday but has known "for a bit" that he would choose OU. He said his recent interactions with Moser only strengthened his decision.

"It just felt like home to me," he said.

Beating out the Cowboys for Forsythe's pledge is one of Moser's first recruiting victories over the Pokes since arriving in Norman. In the 2023 class, OSU landed Garrison, a 4-star center and McDonald's All-American from Del City, over the the Sooners.

Listed at 6-foot-3, Forsythe is the No. 1 prospect in Oklahoma according to On3 and 247Sports. With almost 20 offers from schools around the country, the Dale standout choosing to stay home is a big indication that the Sooners can still succeed with in-state recruits.

Forsythe is a tremendous athlete, excelling at both baseball and basketball. In 2022, the dual-sport phenom helped lead Dale to state titles in baseball and basketball.

Forsythe and the Pirates followed up their remarkable 2022 season with a 32-0 effort on the court in 2023, winning their second consecutive state championship in basketball.

On the AAU circuit, Forsythe plays for Team Griffin, named after Sooners' legend and Oklahoma City native Blake Griffin

Forsythe is OU's first commitment in the 2024 class, giving Moser and company a great start to the upcoming recruiting cycle. If Oklahoma is able to land a solid big man and a good wing in the 2024 class, they should be primed for a breakout year after joining the SEC.
