The NCAA Transfer Portal has been open for less than 24 hours and Oklahoma has already lost a member of the basketball team.

Benny Schroeder, a freshman from Germany, announced via Instagram that he would be leaving OU after one season with the Sooners.

Schroeder played in just six games this season, a total of 25 minutes. He scored 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting — 2.3 points per game — and contributed five rebounds and five turnovers.

"My time at OU has been a great experience and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this program," Schroeder wrote. "I want to thank my coaches, teammates and the (entire) OU family for their support. After much consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal."

Schroeder was tabbed the top international prospect in the 2023 class, according to ESPN, after averaging 16.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for the U-18 German National Team.

Playing for Basketball Academy Munich’s U19 team, Schroeder was the 2022 NBBL MVP and was the Eurobasket.com All-NBBL Player of the Year, averaging 26.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists and shooting 59 percent from the floor in 31.6 minutes per game.
