Another piece of Oklahoma’s roster will be playing basketball elsewhere next season.

Just two days after veteran forward Jalen Hill reportedly entered the transfer portal, senior point guard Grant Sherfield has announced that he will be pursuing a professional career by entering his name into the NBA Draft.

“I want to thank god for the amazing opportunities he has afforded me through this beautiful game of basketball,” Sherfield wrote on Twitter. “A special thanks to my family and friends for their unconditional love throughout my journey!

“To the OU staff, Norman community, and Sooner Nation, thank you for the warm embrace and support. I’m proud to say, I’m a Sooner for life!

“To my brothers/teammates, we didn’t fulfill our season goals, but we played hard and left everything on the court. There is growth and love in our shared journey.

“After discussions with my family and coaches, I have decided to declare for the 2023 NBA Draft.”

Sherfield moves on to the next level after playing just one season with the Sooners, transferring to Oklahoma from Nevada last offseason.

While it likely wasn’t quite the season he and OU had hoped for from him, it was still a quite solid one for the Fort Worth native.

On the year, Sherfield led the team in scoring averaging 15.9 points per game shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from three-point range.

When the Sooners were at their best, it was when Sherfield was scoring at a high-clip - as evidenced by his 30-point outburst in Oklahoma’s 93-69 win over No. 2 Alabama on January 28th.

Also worth noting on Wednesday is that while Hill is in fact entering the portal as was reported, he announced that he will also be entering his name into the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility.

Heading into next year, Porter Moser will be operating without a plethora of regular contributors including three starters in Sherfield, Hill and Tanner Groves.

Bench players Bijan Cortes, C.J. Noland, Joe Bamisile and Benny Schroeder have all previously announced they would be transferring.
