Former Oklahoma Pitcher Jordy Bahl Suffers ACL Injury, Out for the Season
Jordy Bahl’s season is over almost before it got started.
Bahl, a two-time All-American and two-time World Series champ at Oklahoma, suffered a knee injury last week in her first game with the Nebraska Cornhuskers and will miss the remainder of the season.
“In game one of opening weekend in Puerto Vallarta, I experienced an injury to my ACL that is going to cause me to support the Red Team in a different way than anticipated for the 2024 season,” Bahl wrote on her Instagram account. “With a heart thankful for God’s plan and timing, I will be redshirting this year and looking forward to a season of growth and learning from a different point of view. I’m thankful for the support of my family, friends, coaches and staff. I’m truly blessed to have so many wonderful and loving people in my life.”
Bahl allowed three runs and two hits in 2 1/3 innings against the Huskies with three strikeouts and four walks before she collapsed on a routine pitch in the third inning of the Cornhuskers’ loss to Washington last Thursday in the first game of the season. Bahl was fighting back tears as she was helped to the dugout by medical personnel.
Nebraska coach Rhonda Revelle reportedly said on the postgame radio show that the team would be “very conservative” with Bahl for the rest of the tournament but didn’t know the severity of Bahl’s injury until the team returned to Lincoln.
On Tuesday, Revelle issued a statement.
“Obviously, we are all disappointed to hear the news of Jordy’s season-ending knee injury. We are grateful that Jordy is in excellent care with our medical team and are confident in a full recovery. We fully expect that Jordy will be granted a hardship for this season and be back in the jersey for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
At Oklahoma, Bahl — the National Gatorade Player of the Year at Papillion, NE — was dominant before sustaining an injury to her pitching arm late in her freshman season, but she still came back to help the Sooners win their second straight Women’s College World Series title.
In 2023, she stayed healthy and powered the Sooners to a WCWS three-peat.
She went 22-1 in the circle in 2022 with a 1.09 earned run average with 205 strikeouts and 35 walks with seven shutouts and 14 complete games.
She went 22-1 in 2023 with a 0.90 ERA with 192 strikeouts and 37 walks with eight strikeouts and 12 complete games.
