Two major honors have rolled in for OU softball.

D1Softball, one of the nation's leading outlets reporting on collegiate softball, has honored former Oklahoma right-hander Jordy Bahl as Pitcher of the Year and Sooners' rising senior Jayda Coleman as Defensive Player of the Year

These honors come less than two weeks after Oklahoma took down Florida State to win its third consecutive national title and seventh championship since 2000.

As a sophomore this season, Bahl threw 147 1/3 innings, ending the year with a remarkable 0.90 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. The Most Outstanding Player at the 2023 WCWS achieved a 22-1 win/loss record this year, also leading the Sooners in saves with four.

Bahl notched 192 strikeouts and 12 complete games this season, allowing only 19 earned runs in 38 appearances. The rising junior's opponents batted just .160 against her in 2023.

After two successful seasons at Oklahoma, Bahl announced that she was transferring to the University of Nebraska on June 15.

"Bahl made plenty of headlines in the past week between winning the 2023 Women’s College World Series Most Outstanding Player award and announcing she’ll transfer from Oklahoma. Nevertheless, the former top recruit has lived up to her potential and showed her greatness in Oklahoma City. The Sooner ace threw 24.2 scoreless innings at the WCWS, including a win and save in the championship series against Florida State," D1Softball wrote.

Coleman's award victory is also no surprise, as the star center fielder repeatedly made big plays down the stretch of the Sooners' championship run. On one play in particular, the Colony High School (TX) product leaped into the air with her back against the fence to rob the Seminoles of what would have been a huge home run.

Coleman fired the ball back into the infield immediately and prevented any runners from advancing, providing just a glimpse into the defensive prowess of the OU standout.

While she often makes highlight plays, Coleman does all the little things correctly, which is what makes her such a consistently sound defender play after play. This season, recording a perfect fielding percentage and ending the year with zero errors.

"Jayda Coleman has never seen a home run she didn’t think she could rob or a runner she didn’t believe she could throw out. The Big 12 Player of the Year showed all season that she’s a game-changer for Oklahoma in center field," D1Softball wrote.

Coleman is slated to return to Oklahoma for her senior year in 2024.

D1Softball will continue to handout the remainder of its postseason awards in the coming days, including coach of the year..
