Oklahoma Softball's 41-Game Winning Streak: By the Numbers

The Sooners only dropped one regular season game in 2023, tying a program record for consecutive wins in the process.

For the fourth straight season, the Oklahoma Sooners have gone streaking.

Patty Gasso’s top-ranked squad has put together an unbeaten run of at least 30 games each of the last four complete seasons, but OU’s 2023 streak has been special.

The Sooners swept Oklahoma State to close the regular season, tying the program record of 41 consecutive wins, first set in 2019.

Both streaks are tied for the second-longest unbeaten run in NCAA Division I softball history, trailing only Arizona’s 47-game win streak the Wildcats set across the 1996-1997 seasons.

Following Sunday’s 5-1 win over Oklahoma State, Gasso praised her team’s ability to play at a high level game after game.

“(It takes) a lot of work. A lot of trust,” she said. “Staying healthy. Doing the right thing. Making good choices. All of that, it’s very important for us to get through a season the way we did.”

The Sooners will carry the winning streak into next weekend’s Big 12 Tournament, but the focus will be on bringing home a trophy next week as opposed to purely keeping the streak alive.

“I wouldn’t know about it. … We don’t talk about it,” Gasso said. “We just want to win. And so that’s the goal always.”

Still, OU’s dominance has been on full display throughout the 41-game run that started after the Sooners’ early season 4-3 loss to Baylor in a non-conference bout in Waco.

Here’s a look at the the numbers behind Oklahoma’s unbeaten run:

Oklahoma’s pitching staff has dominated all year long, and Jordy Bahl, Nicole May, Alex Storako and Kierston Deal all have played a key role in the streak.

The staff has combined for three no-hitters over the last 41 games, starting with Bahl’s solo effort against Kentucky on March 3.

She followed that up with a perfect game against Southeastern Louisiana on March 10, and May and Bahl joined forces to no-hit Kansas last weekend.

Not only have the Sooners stacked win after win, they’ve taken on elite competition in the process.

Oklahoma notched eight wins over teams currently ranked in the top 10 in the NFCA Coaches Poll, including a 14-0 battering of No. 2 UCLA, and clutch 5-4 win over No. 3 Florida State in Norman and sweeps over No. 5 Texas and No. 7 Oklahoma State.

That number balloons to 19 victories when expanded to include the entire top 25, including six wins over current SEC members.

OU has successfully paired elite pitching with timely hitting to torch a number of opponents across the winning streak.

Eighteen of the last 41 wins have come in run-rule fashion, including an eye-popping 23 shutouts.

As a result, Gasso’s Sooners lead the country in most major categories, including team batting average, team ERA and team fielding percentage.

81

This past offseason Gasso built a lineup with power from top to bottom, and it’s shown in 2023.

Over the last 41 games alone, the Sooners have launched 81 home runs.

The home run haul more than doubled the total number of runs the Sooners pitching staff has allowed over the streak, and Oklahoma has outscored its opponents 335-34 in the process.
