OU Softball: Jocelyn Erickson Scorching at the Plate as Oklahoma Pours it on SFA

The Sooners' fantastic freshman continued her hot start with five hits, eight RBIs and nearly hit for the cycle as the Sooners rolled to a 22-0 victory in Waco.

Jocelyn Erickson could get used to this college softball stuff.

Oklahoma’s fabulous freshman continued her torrid start on Saturday with four hits and six RBIs, powering the No. 1-ranked Sooners to a 22-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin at the Getterman Classic in Waco, TX.

While Erickson was putting on a show at the plate, senior pitcher Alex Storako was overpowering in the circle.

Storako struck out eight of the first nine SFA batters she faced as the Sooners roared to an 12-0 lead after three innings, with four runs in each frame.

OU improved to 7-0 on the season, while the Lumberjacks fell to 5-6. The Sooners take the field against Army in a game scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Erickson finished 5-for-5 with eight RBIs and three runs scored. Haley Lee was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Grace Lyons was 3-for-3 with five RBIs and five runs scored. Jayda Coleman and Jordy Bahl combined for two hits and four runs scored in the leadoff spot.

Erickson’s big day came after being moved to the cleanup spot for the first time this year.

Coleman got the scoring started in the first inning when she came home on Lyons’ single to right field.

Erickson followed that up with a double to left center that brought Lyons home for a 2-0 lead.

Alyssa Brito continued her hot start to the season with a double to left center that scored Erickson. It was Brito’s team-best 10th RBI of the season.

Lee kept the train rolling with an RBI single down the left field line to send Brito home for a 4-0 lead.

After Coleman and Lyons reached to open the second inning, Erickson turned up the heat with a three-run blast over the wall in right center field for an 8-0 Sooner lead. It was her team-leading third home run of the season.

Cydney Sanders then added an RBI single that brought home Lee, who singled and advanced on an error.

In the third inning, Coleman singled and Quincee Lilio doubled, and Lyons drove them in with a two-run single up the middle for a 10-0 lead.

Erickson did it again when she pulled an 0-2 pitch through the gap on the right side, sending Lyons home to make it 11-0.

The Sooners loaded the bases on Sophia Nugent’s single to right and Grace Green’s walk, setting the table for Avery Hodge’s bases-loaded walk that scored Erickson for a 12-0 advantage. It was Hodge’s first career RBI.

After Bahl led off the fourth inning with a single to right, Lilio was hit by pitch and Lyons loaded the bases again by drawing a walk.

Erickson then roped an RBI single to left, scoring Bahl from third and logging her ninth RBI of the season. That hit raised Erickson’s season batting average to .636.

Lee then smashed a two-run single up the middle to score Lyons and Lilio for a 15-0 Sooner lead.

The hit parade continued when Sanders singled to right to reload the bases, and Hodge drew another bases-loaded walk for a 16-0 lead.

Alyna Torres then delivered a two-run single up the middle to score Sanders and Lee to make it 18-0.

The Sooners still weren’t done, as Lyons popped up a two-run double in front of the right fielder to score

Erickson came to the plate needing a triple to become the first Sooner to hit for the cycle, but after she blasted a ball off the wall in left-center field, she was held up at second base with a two-run double that scored Lyons and Lilio for a 22-0 lead.

Kierston Deal replaced Storako and pitched the fifth inning to close the game.
